Training
This goes from strength to strength with the normal Monday and Wednesday sessions. Although this winter has seen the introduction of the Sunday morning session, one of which I have even attended and didn’t get lost going around McCains!!
As we know training is certainly open to all, and should be encouraged to those who even just want to keep fit or those that wish to join the club and take part in races. With the numbers that now attend it is easy to split up runners so that those who can and want to run fast do and those that have a specific goal, i.e. finish and get better can.
A comment from a work mate just shows how well the attendance has grown, my mate regularly attends the gym at the manor, and he has mentioned that there are “now loads turning up to go for a run” “are you lot made”, clearly a comment from someone who hasn’t gone running.
I would have to say that the training which people have been doing will if it hasn’t already, show through in their races.
Recent Performances
Looking back at the results, there have been some personal bests and also some very consistent performances, all of which have no doubt been very fulfilling to those individuals. So well done.
The headline makers recently have been Richard Sharpe for achieving his pb for the marathon, under 4 hours is an achievement. Well done. Eammon continues to put in some good marathon times, finishing with a better time than last year at Bungay, although last year he did just turn up.
On the shorter distances, Sue Frisby and Chris Northern have pb’s at the half marathon (shorter distance???); there performances can also be contributed to the efforts of Andy Harding, who has provided a great deal of support.
In the Frostbite, Laura Greenwood had a great performance at Huntingdon with a sprint finish which I hope bodes well for next season. Angela Curtis has also shown true grit by running after being hit by a tree, no jokes about reversing and women driving please!
On the very short distance, I surprised a few people at the last Harrier league by coming second on the night with a pb at that distance. Now call me stupid, but what chance of a decent handicap for next season…… yes I know none.
For all of the recent results I would recommend that you check out the website, in fact I think that this is certainly one of the better local club sites around.
